Ruggero A. Calo BSc MRCPOD

Ruggero qualified from the University of Southampton in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Podiatric Medicine. He is a member of the Royal College of Podiatry (MRCPOD) and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Practicing freelance Podiatrist, Ruggero’s clinical expertise covers all routine areas of general Podiatry and Chiropody, with a particular interest in the prescription of custom orthotics and lower limb biomechanics. His approach includes the use of advanced diagnostic technologies such as dynamic and static force plate measurements for gait analysis, working with regular patients to bring comfort and relief, prevent fatigue in their walking through to post surgery rehab through to working with elite level recreational and higher level athletes.

Over the years, Ruggero he has worked closely with GPs, Orthopaedic surgeons, Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and more and, within multidisciplinary podiatry clinics including Diabetes, Rheumatology and High Risk Clinics. His career began in the NHS before moving into private practice. He has also served as a delegate for the Dorset Branch of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (now the Royal College of Podiatry).

Outside the clinic, Ruggero draws on a strong sporting background to inform his work. A former amateur sprint runner in the 100m, 200m, and 400m events, he is also a qualified swimming instructor and teacher. While at the University of Southampton, he both coached and competed with the university’s swimming and athletics team. He holds a Third-degree black belt and teaching qualification in traditional Japanese Contact Reflex karate, which he continues to teach.

At weekends—weather permitting—you’ll find Ruggero surfing or windsurfing, as an active member of the local watersports community. When not in the water, he enjoys exploring the Dorset countryside with his beloved Romanian rescue dog, Shanti.
