Podiatry practice providing diabetic foot care and health checks

At Coastal Podiatry at the Sandbanks clinic, diabetic foot care across Bournemouth and Poole is an essential part of services Podiatrists can offer to the those with diabetic feet. Diabetic persons can be at increased risk of developing complications to the foot and lower limb so it is essential to have a good indication of the risk level you are at and your overall health status. One of the best things as a diabetic person you can do is have your feet and regularly checked over by a health professional. Although an annual diabetic foot check is usually available for free via your GP practice, in private health care you can also see a Podiatrist to check your feet regularly.

What is diabetes

In short diabetes is high sugar levels in your blood. There are two common forms of diabetesType 1, which is insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). Persons with this disorder need to take insulin injections and work closely with their GP.

Type 2, non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). In type two you can usually manage it through diet, exercise, weight management, lifestyle and medications. Again your GP will play a fundamental role in assisting you in managing your condition.

It always helps if you are pro-active in managing your health and have regular checks with your medical practitioner. Especially in terms of establishing your diabetes status and then understanding how to keep your blood sugar levels healthy. It is never too late to start. In an ideal scenario, your podiatrist should always be part of your health management team.
